About the Benelli Leoncino
The Benelli Leoncino is a scrambler-styled naked that revives the original 1951 Leoncino name, now built in modern form at the Qianjiang factory since 2017. The volume seller is the Leoncino 500, powered by a liquid-cooled 500 cc parallel twin producing 35 kW (47 hp), the same engine that powers the TRK 502. The line also includes a Leoncino 125 for A1 riders, an 800 cc Leoncino 800 / 800 Trail, and a Bobber 400 variant. Styling cues are consistent across the range: round headlight, short tail and the lion mascot on the front mudguard.
The target rider wants an uncomplicated, approachable retro naked for city commutes and weekend loops rather than a sport or touring machine. Seat heights around 800 mm and modest torque make it manageable for new A2 riders and returning riders. It competes well below Ducati Scrambler and Triumph Street Twin pricing; in exchange you accept slightly cheaper finish and a thinner Dutch dealer parts network. When buying used, always confirm which engine variant is actually on the bike, Leoncino 125, 500 or 800, as marketplace titles are not always precise.

What to check before buying
- Inspect tank paint and rim chrome; chipping and corrosion are common Leoncino complaints.
- Confirm both brake calipers release cleanly; sticky pistons appear after long storage or outdoor winters.
- Listen for top-end ticking on cold start; valve clearance shimming is scheduled around 12,000 km.
- Check the steering head bearing; the short fork and upright stance can leave it knocking after hard use.
- Confirm displacement (125, 500 or 800) and the service log; parts via a Dutch Benelli dealer can take two to four weeks.
