374 cc · 21 hp
The Benelli Imperiale 400 is a retro-classic single produced from 2019 to 2025. Its air-cooled 374 cc SOHC two-valve engine produces around 16 kW (21 hp) at 5,500 rpm and 29 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm - deliberately tuned low to keep the character of a thumping single. Styling looks back to 1950s Italian standards: round headlight, tank knee pads, spoked 19/18-inch wheels and chrome wherever it fits.
The Imperiale 400 targets riders who want an affordable alternative to the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Bullet 500. A 780 mm seat height and a low centre of gravity make it accessible for newer riders and shorter inseams. It is not a motorway commuter - above 100 km/h the single feels stretched - but for back roads, weekend rides and town use it sits in exactly the right place. The full power output is A2-compliant without restriction. Closest rivals are the Royal Enfield Classic 350, Mash X-Ride 400 and Brixton Cromwell 250.
Inspect chrome and tank paint for pitting - the finish is sensitive to humidity and salt
Ask about oil weeps at the head gasket and cylinder base - known issue after 15,000 km
Test cold-start performance; the wiring to the starter motor can oxidise
Check chain and sprocket condition - the 428 chain wears faster than expected
Inspect wheel hubs and spoked rims for rust, especially around the spoke nipples
