About the Honda Monkey 125
The Honda Monkey 125 is the modern reincarnation of an icon dating back to 1961. The new-generation model (JB02, from 2018) uses a 125cc single-cylinder SOHC engine with fuel injection and a four-speed gearbox, with dual disc brakes and optional ABS on models from 2019. The retro design with a round headlamp, small tank and low seat height is a conscious homage to the original Z50 Monkey, but the technology is fully contemporary: LED lighting, digital dashboard and a lightweight aluminium frame.
The Monkey 125 attracts riders who want an iconic, playful character for short urban use or recreational riding. Compact dimensions and low weight (107 kg) make it easy to park and manoeuvre. Not suitable for motorway use but excellent as a city bike or second motorcycle. It competes with the Honda MSX 125 Grom, Kawasaki Z125 Pro and Yamaha MT-125 for those who prefer its retro appearance.

What to check before buying
- Check chain wear and chain guard integrity; the short wheelbase accelerates chain wear compared to a standard motorcycle.
- Inspect the headlamp wiring for corrosion: small connectors at the light housing become vulnerable after repeated rain exposure.
- Check the ABS sensor at the front wheel for damage from off-road use or drops.
- Note aftermarket personalisation: many Monkey bikes have been modified; check for incorrectly fitted or unsafe customisations.
- Check the steering head bearings for play: the compact geometry amplifies vibration from worn bearings.
