Years
2006 - 2010

GenerationThe facelift gained larger silencers, revised cylinder heads and roughly 143 hp, plus bodywork and electronics detail changes. R and Factory share the engine, while Factory uses higher-grade Öhlins and wheel components.
Years
2004 - 2005
Second generation (2004–2005)
GenerationThe all-new RSV 1000 R gained radial brakes, a more compact chassis and a heavily revised 998cc Rotax V-twin. Twin underseat exhausts and angular bodywork distinguish it from the earlier RSV Mille.
About the Aprilia RSV 1000 R
The Aprilia RSV 1000 R is the superbike introduced by the Italian brand in 2004 as the successor to the RSV Mille (1998-2003). It uses the familiar liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin of 998 cc, a Rotax-derived engine that produces around 128 hp and pushes the bike to roughly 210 kg wet. The RSV 1000 R was offered in standard and Factory trim with Ohlins suspension and Brembo brakes, plus a limited Nera edition. Production ran until 2010 when the V4-based RSV4 took over.
The RSV 1000 R targets riders seeking an affordable Italian V-twin superbike with character, for fast weekend rides and the occasional track day. The engine has strong low-end pull and a punchy top end; the riding position is overtly sporty with low clip-ons. Period rivals included the Ducati 999/1098, Honda RC51 SP-2 and Suzuki TL1000R. It is not built for long motorway hauls or two-up riding, but as a youngtimer superbike it delivers serious entertainment for sensible money.

What to check before buying
- Check the regulator/rectifier; this is a well-known weak point on older RSVs.
- Inspect the clutch wiring and hydraulic clutch line for leaks.
- Look for chain and sprocket wear; replacement is expensive.
- Ask about water-pump and coolant condition; head and cooling issues appear on high-mileage examples.
- Check the dashboard electronics; LCD segments can fail.
