About the brand

About Zündapp

Zündapp (full name: Zünder- und Apparatebau GmbH) was a German motorcycle manufacturer, founded in 1917 in Nuremberg. The company began as a producer of detonators and grew into one of Europe's largest motorcycle manufacturers. Zündapp is best known for its popular post-war models such as the KS 50, KS 80 and the Combinette. During World War II, Zündapp produced the KS 750 sidecar combination for the Wehrmacht. In the 1970s and early 1980s, Zündapp was the market leader in the 50cc segment in Europe. Motorcycle production ceased in 1984 when the company went bankrupt; subsequent attempts to revive the brand have not achieved lasting success.

In the Netherlands, Zündapp motorcycles and mopeds regularly appear on used-vehicle platforms as historical or veteran vehicles. The mopeds from the 1960s and 1970s, such as the KS 50 and the Combinette, have a loyal following among classic-vehicle enthusiasts. Most examples currently for sale are restoration projects or already-restored vehicles for hobbyists and collectors. Original parts are scarce but can still be found through specialist clubs and international Zündapp communities.
