The first XTZ750 Super Ténéré combines a 749cc parallel twin with a 23-litre tank and long travel. It is a classic rally adventure; check cooling, carburettors and swingarm bearings.
The Yamaha XTZ750 Super Ténéré is a legendary travel enduro produced by Yamaha from 1989 to 1996, powered by a water-cooled parallel-twin of 749 cc producing 69 hp. The Super Ténéré was developed as the road-going version of the factory Dakar Rally machine with which Yamaha conquered the desert in the 1980s. The combination of a large fairing, generous tank range and long-travel suspension made it one of the best long-distance travel enduros of its era. It competed directly with the BMW R80GS and Honda Africa Twin.
The XTZ750 targets touring riders who want to cover real long distances including off-road terrain. The upright riding position, generous luggage options and relatively low weight for its class make it well suited to multi-day adventure touring. On the used market, well-maintained examples are popular as an affordable alternative adventure bike. When buying, pay close attention to the water pump and carburettor condition, low-maintenance history examples are rare.
