ABS facelift (2014–2015)

LEADER (2009–2013)

About this model

About the Vespa GTS Super 125

The Vespa GTS Super 125 is the sport-styled 125 cc version of Vespa's large steel-bodied GTS platform. Since the late 2000s it has combined traditional Vespa design with automatic CVT transmission, disc brakes and a liquid-cooled four-stroke single. Its engineering evolved in stages: early LEADER engines gave way to the more efficient i-get unit in 2016, followed by revised front suspension, keyless starting and updated controls for model year 2023. Racing Sixties, Notte and similar names are primarily equipment and colour packages within the same technical family.

With the appropriate A1 entitlement, the GTS Super 125 is best suited to urban use, commuting and regional roads. Its larger body provides more stability and room than a Primavera or Sprint, but also makes it heavier and less compact when parking. Performance is sufficient for city ring roads rather than relaxed, sustained motorway travel. Compare model years carefully because ABS, ASR, Start & Stop and keyless starting vary by generation. Relevant alternatives include the Piaggio Medley 125, Honda SH125i and Yamaha NMAX 125.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • Inspect the underside of the steel monocoque, floorboard edges and seams around the mudguard and centre stand for corrosion, bubbling paint and previous repairs.
  • At low speed, check for play or knocking in the steering head and single-sided front suspension, and confirm that the scooter brakes in a straight line.
  • Ask for evidence of CVT belt, roller and clutch servicing; judder when moving away or rising revs without acceleration indicate wear.
  • Test cold and hot starts, Start & Stop and charging voltage; a weak battery can trigger several apparently unrelated faults on i-get models.
  • Check coolant level, hoses and the water-pump area for leakage, and verify that the fan operates in dense urban traffic.
