2003 - 2007
The naked SV1000 and SV1000S share engine, frame and brakes. The S is identified by its half-fairing and more forward riding position; mechanically they are one generation.
The Suzuki SV1000 is the big-torque V-twin in the SV line. It was built from 2003 through 2007 as the naked SV1000 and the half-faired SV1000S. Its liquid-cooled 996 cc 90-degree V-twin is technically related to the TL1000 engine and delivers strong mid-range thrust in a less extreme, more usable road package. An aluminium frame, fuel injection and twin front discs make it appreciably more modern than many comparable Japanese twins of its era.
It is neither an A2 bike nor a light beginner machine: throttle response, engine braking and weight reward a measured right hand. Riders seeking a characterful naked or sport-tourer will find it versatile for commuting, country roads and longer trips, with practical luggage options. The S uses the same core motorcycle with a screen and sportier riding position. Buy on service history and condition rather than mileage alone; an unmodified, well-kept example is usually the wiser choice.
