The Suzuki GSX-R400 is a compact Japanese four-cylinder sport bike from the 1980s and 1990s. It has a high-revving 398 cc engine, low clip-ons and much of the look of larger GSX-R models in a lighter package. Many are grey imports or have spent long periods stored, so originality and documentation matter more than mileage alone. It is not a relaxed beginner bike: the riding position is sporty and power arrives higher in the rev range. Buy only after a thorough cold start and inspection. Check carburettors, cooling, brakes, fairing mounts and availability of model-specific parts. A tidy, complete machine is far more appealing than a cheap restoration project.
