MP3 300

The Piaggio MP3 300 is Piaggio's mid-range three-wheeled scooter with two independently tilting front wheels, in production since 2010. The 278 cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine with CVT automatic delivers enough power for city traffic and secondary roads, while the three wheels add grip on wet streets, tram tracks and slippery cobbled squares. The integrated tilt-lock keeps the scooter upright at standstill without the rider putting a foot down, which is a real bonus in stop-and-go commuter traffic.

Thanks to its lower weight and modest power compared to the 500, the MP3 300 is primarily a city commuter. Direct rivals are conventional 300 cc maxi-scooters such as the Honda Forza 300 and Yamaha XMAX 300, but the three wheels give it a clear edge in confidence on poor surfaces. Under earlier Dutch rules a qualified B-licence holder could ride the older MP3 300-LT (especially in sport-bar trim) without a motorcycle licence, which made it popular with older car drivers. Expect roomy underseat storage, an upright riding position and decent wind protection from the front fairing.
