Beverly 400

The Piaggio Beverly 400 is the largest two-wheeled scooter from Piaggio and the flagship of the Beverly line. The 399 cc HPE four-stroke single-cylinder with four valves drives through a CVT automatic, delivers brisk acceleration well past 130 km/h, and is aimed at medium-distance commuting. Uniquely in its class, the Beverly runs 16-inch front wheels, which make it noticeably more stable and confidence-inspiring on poor surfaces, tram tracks and concrete gutters than a typical 14-inch maxi-scooter. ABS is standard, with ASR traction control on later trims.

With its upright posture, tall handlebar and large saddle, the Beverly 400 targets commuters who want comfort and weather protection without the extra-wide bodywork of a TMAX or Forza 750. Rivals are the Honda SH350i, Yamaha XMAX 400, Kymco Xciting 400 and BMW C 400 GT. The big wheels give it a light motorcycle-like feel compared to the XMAX, while the underseat compartment is large enough for one full-face helmet. Suited to city and B-road work, comfortable on the motorway up to cruising speed but less punchy on top end than a 530 cc twin-cylinder rival.
