The KTM 990 Supermoto is a road-registered supermoto powered by a 999 cc LC8 V-twin engine, built as the ultimate urban hunter for riders wanting KTM's motocross DNA on public roads. The V-twin produces 115 hp and sits in a lightweight trellis frame with long-travel WP suspension and full-size supermoto wheels. The bike was produced from 2008 to 2013 and is now a classic in the segment.
The 990 Supermoto targets advanced riders who want the direct, active handling of a supermoto combined with the grunt of a big-bore engine. It is not a beginner's bike: steering response is fast and demands attention. It is still regularly found on the Dutch used market and represents a more affordable alternative to the current 690 SMC R.
Check the LC8 V-twin for oil seepage at the cylinder head gasket; a known weakness at higher mileage.
Inspect the chain tensioner and sprockets for wear; V-twin torque at low rpm accelerates drivetrain wear.
Ask about supermoto tyre condition; the stiff compound wears quickly with aggressive riding and is expensive.
Check the cooling system for leaks at the water pump and radiator connections.
Watch for exhaust system corrosion; multiple owners and outdoor storage accelerate rust.
