About the Ktm 990 Duke R
The KTM 990 Duke R is a limited run trackday-ready version of the 990 Super Duke, produced in 2009 as a special edition. Compared to the standard Super Duke it features fully adjustable WP suspension, Brembo M4 calipers, a raised handlebar position and slightly revised power delivery focused on circuit use. The engine is the same 999 cc LC8 V-twin producing 115 hp but tuned for track applications.
The 990 Duke R targets trackday riders who want a road-legal machine with circuit performance but without homologation obligations. The riding position is more aggressive than the standard Super Duke and less suited to daily commuting. It was produced in limited numbers, making it rarer on the used market. Riders looking for a circuit-focused naked V-twin had this alongside the Ducati 1198 as an option.

What to check before buying
- Check for extensive track use in the history; trackday-spec bikes may have seen harder use than typical road examples.
- Inspect WP suspension for wear or sagging spring rates from intensive track sessions.
- Check the cam chain tensioner; the same known LC8 failure as on the 990 Super Duke.
- Verify original Brembo caliper condition and function; replacement costs more than standard parts.
