Years
2024 - present
The current 250 EXC uses throttle-body injection and modern enduro electronics. It remains an hour-based machine: piston interval, air-filter discipline and WP service are central to a good purchase.
Years
2018 - 2023
The TPI generation uses transfer-port injection, making the 250 EXC more consistent with altitude and temperature. Check injection sensors, cold starting and all dealer updates.
Years
2012 - 2017
The late carburettor series has a modern chassis and WP suspension while retaining conventional two-stroke fuelling. Check frame and clutch for hard-enduro use.
Years
1994 - 2011
The classic 250 EXC uses a carburettor and mechanical power valve. Hour log, piston, cylinder, radiators and suspension service matter more than mileage.
The KTM 250 EXC is a two-stroke enduro from the Austrian KTM lineup, long considered a benchmark in competitive enduro riding. The engine is a 249 cc two-stroke single with water-cooling and reed valve induction, producing around 45 hp in unrestricted tune. Dutch road registration requires a restriction, which explains the RDW figure of 10 hp. A weight of around 103 kg and aluminium frame architecture make it one of the lightest road-registered enduro bikes available. Annual model updates keep it at the front of the class.
The 250 EXC targets experienced enduro riders seeking the competitive lightweight two-stroke class. The tall seat height (around 950 mm) and strong power delivery require riding experience and physical fitness. As a registered machine it can also cover road transfers between trails. Direct rivals include the Beta RR 250, Husqvarna TE 250, and Gas Gas EC 250. When buying used, check the service history closely, piston and cylinder wear are the key items to verify.
A used Ktm 250 EXC costs €7,650 on average. Most cost €4,849 to €13,729. This is based on 29 motorcycles for sale now.
