About the Ktm 1390 Super Duke R
The KTM 1390 Super Duke R is, from 2024 onwards, the successor to the 1290 Super Duke R and the most extreme production naked KTM has ever built. The LC8 V-twin has been bored from 1301 to 1350 cc, but more importantly KTM added variable valve timing (Cam Shift) on the intake camshaft. As a result peak power jumps from 180 hp (1290) to 190 hp and torque rises to 145 Nm without sacrificing low-end pull. Standard kit includes full Bosch electronics with IMU, cornering ABS, slipper clutch, quickshifter, launch control and cruise control. The 'EVO' trim adds semi-active WP suspension and automatic damping adjustment.
The target rider is the highly experienced owner chasing the ultimate hyper-naked character. At around 200 kg dry, with a short wheelbase and an explosive V-twin, this is not a bike for beginners. Ergonomics are upright but aggressive, the bars wide and the centre of gravity high. Direct rivals are the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S, BMW M 1000 R and Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory.

What to check before buying
- Verify all recall actions are completed; the KTM 2024-2025 had campaigns covering clutch clamp and fuel system.
- Inspect the water pump for moisture traces; the LC8 platform shares the documented pump bearing problems.
- Test all electronics and ride modes; the extensive IMU suite requires annual firmware updates.
- Confirm dealer service using KTM diagnostic software; the Cam Shift VVT demands precise calibration.
- Assess tyre and brake pad wear; this segment is hard on consumables.
