Years
2020 - 2023
For 2020 the Super Duke R gained a new frame, revised ergonomics and the 180 hp LC8. This is the regular manually suspended version; assign EVO only when that designation is explicit.
Years
2017 - 2023
This row preserves the broad 2017–2023 family for adverts without reliable generation or trim information. The 2017–2019 and 2020–2023 motorcycles differ materially; do not infer an exact specification without a model year or clear source value.
Years
2017 - 2019
The Euro 4 update retained the first chassis family but brought refined electronics and about 177 hp. It is not a Euro 5 model and not yet the fully redesigned 2020-on Super Duke R.
Years
2014 - 2016
The first 1290 Super Duke R brought the 1301cc LC8 and 173 hp to the hyper-naked class. It is the original pre-Euro 4 generation; a sound service history matters more than accessories.
The KTM 1290 Super Duke R is a hyper-naked built around the 1301cc LC8 V-twin. The first version arrived in 2014 with 173 hp; the 2017 update brought Euro 4 and more electronics. For 2020 the motorcycle was substantially redesigned with a lighter chassis and 180 hp. The 2022–2023 EVO uses the same engine but adds semi-active WP suspension. An advert simply labelled ‘1290 Super Duke R’ should therefore always be checked for model year and an EVO designation.
The Super Duke R suits an experienced rider seeking V-twin torque, wide-bar ergonomics and very sharp handling. It is more practical at low speed than a superbike, but its throttle response, brakes and performance demand attention and restraint. On a used bike, check service history, tyres, brakes and the operation of every electronic rider aid. The 2020–2023 generation is not a minor facelift of the 2017–2019 machine: chassis, ergonomics and engine calibration are materially different.
