Years1993–2006
The ZX600E is the substantially revised ZZR 600 with ram-air, stiffer frame, changed engine parts, wider wheels and stronger front brakes. Its core remains a 599 cc carburetted inline-four, but this is the correct reference for most Dutch ZZR 600 used bikes. Minor changes after 1997 and 2003 do not make a separate technical generation.

Years1990–1992
The original ZZR 600/ZX600D is the first fully faired 599 cc generation. It differs technically and in braking hardware from the later E series. Use this row only for a demonstrable 1990–1992 motorcycle; a 1993 first registration is not automatically a D series.

The Kawasaki ZZR 600 is the fully faired 599 cc inline-four sold in Europe from 1990 to 2006 as a fast, usable 600. It has four carburettors, six speeds and more wind protection than the later pure ZX-6R supersports. The key used-market split is 1993: the first ZX600D series was replaced by the substantially revised ZX600E with ram-air, a stiffer frame, changed engine internals and stronger front brakes.
The ZZR 600 suits a rider seeking a classic sport tourer for commuting, motorway work and twisty roads. It is not a modern A2 motorcycle in original form. Buy on carburettor, cooling, brake and bodywork maintenance rather than model year or colour alone. On a 1993 bike, the frame number and exact variant matter more than the first-registration date.
Check cold starting, idle and throttle response; four aged carburettors, intake rubbers or poor synchronisation cause hesitation and a hanging idle.
Inspect radiator, hoses, water pump and coolant for leaks and stable operating temperature.
Test both front brakes, calipers and hoses. The 1993-on E series uses different brake hardware from the D series, so parts must match the correct model.
Check fairing ears, mirrors, ram-air intake and mounting points for cracks or improvised repairs after a slide.
Inspect exhaust, swingarm, chain/sprockets and cush-drive rubbers for corrosion, play and deferred maintenance.
