About the Indian FTR 1200
The Indian FTR 1200 is a naked motorcycle that Indian launched in 2019 as a street-legal derivative of the FTR750 flat track racer. Its 1203 cc 60-degree V-twin with dual overhead cams produces around 123 hp and 120 Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox and chain drive. An aluminium trellis frame, fully adjustable upside-down fork and piggyback rear shock give the FTR an agile character that stands apart from Indian's traditional cruiser line-up. From the 2020 model year onward Indian moved to a 17-inch wheel set and sport tyre option, repositioning the bike toward street use rather than the looser dirt-track stance of the first series.
The FTR targets experienced riders who want a characterful V-twin naked and would otherwise consider a Ducati Monster or Triumph Speed Triple. The riding position is upright with a wide bar, well-suited to urban work and twisty back roads but less so to motorway distance because there is no wind protection. Late in 2024 Indian announced that the FTR line is being discontinued, which over time will make the used market interesting for enthusiasts. Expect high fuel consumption and noticeable heat from the rear cylinder in city traffic.

What to check before buying
- Check the regulator/rectifier on early 2019-2020 units; premature failures are documented
- Inspect rear cylinder head and clutch cover for oil seepage around the gaskets
- Test the TFT touchscreen on S/R models; calibration can drift over time
- Feel for heat from the rear cylinder in stop-and-go traffic, a common owner complaint
- Ask the official Indian dealer about TBR software updates and any recall history
