Years1987–1988
The first CBR1000F uses a 998 cc four in a steel frame with fully enclosed bodywork. Its early single-headlight face and lower output distinguish it from the SC24.
998 cc · 133 hp · 4 cyl.
The Honda CBR1000F Hurricane is a fully faired sport-tourer powered by a 998 cc transverse inline-four, produced from 1987 to 1999. Unlike the later CBR1000RR Fireblade, the CBR1000F was not a pure circuit-focused machine but a fast and comfortable all-rounder. Output was around 135 hp, making it one of the quickest production touring machines of its era.
The CBR1000F suits riders who want to combine motorway speed with touring ability. The riding position is more upright than pure sportbikes, with full weather protection. An excellent long-distance bike for runs to Germany or southern Europe. Given its age, a solid service history is essential. As a classic it competes with the Kawasaki ZZR1100 and Yamaha FJ1200.
Check all four carburettors for blockages and balanced synchronisation; older examples can develop flat spots and rough idle.
Inspect radiator hoses and coolant condition; vulnerable on bikes without regular coolant maintenance.
Look for fork seal leaks and verify the fork legs are straight; sourcing parts at this age can be challenging.
Check the exhaust internally for rust, particularly on long-stored examples.
Inspect wiring harness insulation for cracking; a well-known concern on late 1980s/early 1990s Honda models.
