Years
1993 - 1995
The Optima 50 replaced the 3S in 1993 with Sachs 505/2 power. Ignition and finish changed within this short series, so use the type plate and wiring loom to establish whether it is an early transition bike or a later 12V Iskra version.
The Hercules Optima 50 is a German 50cc Mokick from the final Hercules/Sachs period. It succeeded the Optima 3S in 1993 and combines an air-cooled Sachs 505/2 two-stroke with a two-speed manual gearbox and chain drive. During its short production run the ignition, mudguards and finish changed, so the exact version matters more than the tank badge alone: early examples and the later 12V version require different parts.
The Optima 50 suits enthusiasts who want a simple, light classic moped whose maintenance is easy to understand. Prefer a complete example with the correct Sachs engine, Bing carburettor, exhaust and electrical system. A test ride should show clean cold starting, a non-slipping clutch and calm gear changes. Also verify legality of any restriction or cylinder changes; non-original exhausts and sprocket choices are common on these bikes.
