About the Hercules HR 2
The Hercules Hobbyrider HR 2 is a rare light Mofa from 1980. It uses a 47cc Sachs 505/2B two-stroke with pedal start, two-speed hand gearbox and chain drive. Its low restricted speed and simple 6V contact ignition belong to the original version; check the type plate and engine code before assessing it as a tuned moped or another Hobbyrider model.
The HR 2 is appealing as a compact classic moped if it is complete. Inspect engine, clutch, drum brakes and wiring, and look for old conversions. Cold starting without prolonged pedalling, clean shifting and working charging are better signals than new paint alone. Because model numbers are limited, an original parts list helps with every purchase.

What to check before buying
- Verify the type plate, frame number and Hobbyrider HR 2 version before ordering parts or assigning year.
- Check Sachs 505/2B, compression, crank seals, carburettor and 1:50 premix for cold starting and hot running.
- Test two-speed gearbox, clutch, chain and sprockets under load and look for non-original cylinder or exhaust parts.
- Check Bosch contact ignition, 6V charging, lights and loom for corrosion and poor earths.
- Inspect frame, fork, drum brakes, wheels, tyres and tank for corrosion, play and crash damage.
