Years
2012 - 2017
The final FLSTC generation uses the 1690 cc High Output Twin Cam 103B. This 2012–2017 Heritage remains the classic FLSTC; do not confuse it with the later Milwaukee-Eight Heritage Classic FLHCS, which is a different model line.
Years
2007 - 2011
The 1584 cc Twin Cam 96B brings a six-speed gearbox and a clear capacity increase. This is an engine generation rather than a cosmetic trim, so verify year and engine capacity when an advert merely says ‘Heritage’.
Years
2000 - 2006
The first Twin Cam Heritage uses the 1450 cc 88B with balance shafts. It is mechanically distinct from the Evolution and later 96B/103B; documented cam-chain-tensioner inspection belongs in a purchase check.
Years
1988 - 1999
The original FLSTC with the 1340 cc Evolution V-twin. This is the earlier carburetted Heritage; identify it by its Evolution engine and judge it on condition, originality and maintenance rather than later Twin Cam figures.
The Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic FLSTC is the traditionally styled touring cruiser from the earlier Softail line: valanced fenders, screen, leather luggage and hidden rear suspension. For this FLSTC, the meaningful technical path runs from the 1340 Evolution to the Twin Cam 103B. The later Milwaukee-Eight Heritage Classic FLHCS is a different model line and is deliberately not matched here as an FLSTC generation.
For buyers, model year matters more than the tank badge alone. An Evolution gives the earlier, simpler carburetted experience; the Twin Cam 88B, 96B and 103B bring successive increases in capacity and more modern road manners. The Heritage is built for unhurried touring with passenger and luggage, not steep lean angles or sporty braking. Examine servicing, belt, leaks and original touring equipment closely: condition and maintenance history matter more than added chrome.
