Years
2023 - present
2023+ · Milwaukee-Eight 114
EditionLater Electra Glide sources can state the 1868cc Milwaukee-Eight 114. It is assigned only on 1868cc/114; an incomplete title is not automatically given the larger engine.
Years
2017 - present
2017+ · Milwaukee-Eight 107
GenerationThe modern Electra Glide with the 1745cc Milwaukee-Eight 107 has the revised Touring chassis and a quieter, smoother engine. This row activates only with 1745cc/107 source evidence because stronger touring variants also exist.
Years
2011 - 2016
2011–2016 · Twin Cam 103
GenerationThe 1690cc Twin Cam 103 is the final air-cooled Electra Glide generation before the Milwaukee-Eight. It suits riders wanting the traditional large fairing-and-luggage tourer without the modern M8 drivetrain.
Years
2007 - 2010
2007–2010 · Twin Cam 96
GenerationWith the 1584cc Twin Cam 96 the Electra Glide gained injection and six speeds. The 96/1584cc split matters because the 1690cc 103 from 2011 has a different power and torque basis.
Years
1999 - 2006
1999–2006 · Twin Cam 88
GenerationThe 1450cc Twin Cam 88 replaces the Evolution and provides stronger pulling power for loaded touring. The 1450/1449cc reference prevents incorrect modern displacement in adverts from being assigned to this early Twin Cam.
Years
1984 - 1998
1984–1998 · Evolution 1340
GenerationThe Evolution Electra Glide brings an aluminium 1340cc V-twin and a smoother, more dependable touring character than the Shovelhead. It remains an air-cooled, classic FLHT generation with fairing and luggage.
About the Harley Davidson Electra Glide
The Harley-Davidson Electra Glide (FLHT) is the longest-running touring model in Harley-Davidson's history, introduced in 1965 as the first Harley with an electric starter. The name references that primary innovation: no kick-start required. Over subsequent decades the Electra Glide became the template for all Harley FL tourers, with the full batwing fairing, saddlebags, and complete equipment. The engine evolved from Shovelhead through Evolution to Twin Cam and eventually Milwaukee-Eight. The FLHT is the most stripped-down tourer in the FL family, without the audio upgrades of the Ultra Classic or the frame-mounted fairing of the Road Glide.
The Electra Glide appeals to touring riders who want the classic Harley dresser silhouette: the recognisable batwing fairing, low riding position, effective windscreen, and comfortable passenger pillion. It feels heavy in city traffic but is smooth and stable on the highway. Ideal for riders who genuinely cover distance and want the classic Harley touring look without the price premium of a fully specified Ultra Limited.

What to check before buying
- Check the batwing fairing mounting for vibration damage and cracked plastic; a known weakness on high-mileage examples.
- Inspect the primary chain and crankcase seals for oil leaks; the FLHT's weight accelerates wear versus lighter models.
- Watch for wear in the front fork and spring preload; the distances tourers cover demand more from forks than average.
- Verify that the fairing electrical systems work: lighting, radio, and TFT display on newer models fail regularly.
- Early Twin Cam 88 examples (1999–2006): ask about cam chain tensioner service history due to known bearing and tensioner wear.
