About the Ducati Multistrada 950
The Ducati Multistrada 950 has been Ducati's entry-level adventure tourer since 2017 and shares its 937 cc Testastretta L-twin with the Hypermotard 950 and SuperSport. The engine produces 113 hp and is tuned for a broad torque spread, equally at home touring and on light unpaved paths. From 2019 onwards Ducati offered the "S" version with semi-active Skyhook suspension, full-LED lighting and cornering ABS. In 2022 the model was renamed Multistrada V2 with largely the same hardware and updated electronics.
The target rider is a tourer looking for a lighter alternative to the heavyweight adventure tourers. At 229 kg wet it sits between the mid-size category (BMW F 850 GS, Triumph Tiger 900) and the heavyweights (BMW R 1300 GS). Ergonomics are upright, the seat adjusts between 840 and 860 mm, and with optional panniers and hand guards it is suited to long European tours. Note that the Testastretta uses belt-driven cams (replacement every 30,000 km or 5 years) and Desmo valve clearance checks at 30,000 km, better than older Multistradas, but still more costly than a conventional valve train.

What to check before buying
- Check when the timing belts were last replaced; mandatory every 5 years or 30,000 km.
- Ask whether the Desmo valve clearance check at 30,000 km has been done; service in the Netherlands runs 800-1200 EUR.
- Inspect the TFT display and Ducati Multimedia System (early years) for fault codes; a known issue.
- Check rear suspension and linkage wear; loaded riding with pillion and panniers wears these quickly.
- Inspect exhaust gaskets and lambda sensors; corrosion and moisture are common with all-weather use.
