Can-Am

Can-Am is a brand of Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP), the Canadian company that also produces Ski-Doo and Sea-Doo. Originally founded in 1971 for off-road motorcycle racing, the modern Can-Am lineup consists entirely of three-wheeled vehicles: the Spyder and the Ryker. The Spyder, available as the F3, RT and RS, is a touring trike with two wheels at the front and one at the rear, powered by a 1330cc Rotax three-cylinder engine. The Ryker targets a more entry-level audience with modular accessories and a sporty character. Both models can be ridden in the Netherlands with a standard car driving licence (category B covers three-wheelers over 15 hp), which broadens their appeal significantly.

In the Netherlands, Can-Am has a limited but stable dealer network through selected BRP dealers. The three-wheelers attract a wide audience: former motorcyclists who want to retain the open-road experience with less balance risk, and car drivers looking for a more adventurous alternative. Running costs are comparable to premium touring motorcycles. Parts and servicing are available at authorised BRP dealers, though distances can be significant in rural areas. Second-hand Can-Am three-wheelers are well represented on Dutch used-vehicle platforms and hold their value reasonably well.
