About the Boom Chopper
The Boom Chopper is a three-wheeled motorcycle (trike) produced by German manufacturer Boom Trikes, available from approximately 2000 onwards. The Chopper pairs a chopper-style body with two rear wheels and one front wheel, powered by a Volkswagen or Subaru flat-four engine typically displacing 1800 to 2000 cc. The open cockpit, low seating position, and stretched front fork give the Chopper a pronounced custom look.
The Boom Chopper targets riders who enjoy the cruiser aesthetic but appreciate the stability of three wheels. The wide rear track keeps the trike upright at rest, which can appeal to beginners, though cornering behaviour differs significantly from a conventional motorcycle. It excels on long highway touring. Comparable vehicles include the Can-Am Spyder and the Harley-Davidson Tri Glide.

What to check before buying
- Check the VW/Subaru engine for gasket oil leaks; flat-four engines are prone to head gasket wear at higher ages.
- Inspect the rear axle assembly for wheel bearing wear; the wide rear track makes alignment critical.
- Check the brake servo and ABS module for correct operation; Boom-specific parts can be difficult to source outside Germany.
- Look for rust on the chassis and body panels, particularly on examples stored outdoors.
- Inspect the steering geometry and front wheel Ackermann angles; worn track rod ends cause unpleasant handling.
