Generation

From 2024 the Freewheeler uses the 1,868 cc Milwaukee-Eight 114 with more torque. Match this row only when model year or source text confirms 114/1868; an unqualified FLRT name is insufficient for this newer engine.

Milwaukee-Eight 107 (2017-2023)

Generation

From 2017 the Freewheeler received the 1,745 cc Milwaukee-Eight 107. This is the most common used generation; 107, M8 or 1745 in source text distinguishes it from the earlier Twin Cam and later 114.

Generation

The first Freewheeler uses the air-cooled Twin Cam 103. It is the pre-2017 generation; identify it by 103/Twin Cam in the advert or engine description, not only by the FLRT model code.

About this model

About the Harley Davidson Freewheeler

The Harley-Davidson Freewheeler (FLRT) is a factory-built trike with two rear wheels, reverse gear and a low, open-cruiser profile. It is not a Softail with an add-on rear end: the trike has its own chassis arrangement, independent rear suspension and dedicated brakes. Introduced for 2015, it offers a more compact and less dressed alternative to Harley's touring trikes.

Its engine identifies the generation. Early bikes use the Twin Cam 103, the Milwaukee-Eight 107 arrived for 2017, and the Milwaukee-Eight 114 followed for 2024. The 114 is more than a badge: it brings greater displacement and torque. Verify engine designation, model year and registration rather than assigning every Freewheeler the same 1,745 cc specification. A test ride is essential, as a trike steers and brakes differently from a two-wheeler and both rear tyres reveal a great deal about alignment and use.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • Check both rear tyres for even wear and have rear-axle alignment measured if it pulls or vibrates.
  • Test reverse, parking brake and foot brake on level ground; operation should be immediate, without warnings or uneven braking.
  • Inspect the independent rear suspension, bushes and wheel hubs for play or knocks during the test ride.
  • Examine the drive belt and pulley teeth for fraying, stone damage and incorrect tension.
  • Verify dealer history for brake fluid, software campaigns and servicing of the larger trike-specific brake and parking-brake system.
