About this model

About the Boom Trike Sportster

The Boom Trike Sportster is not a standalone Harley-Davidson model family, but a Boom Moto-Trike conversion around eligible Harley-Davidson Sportster donors. Boom's 2011 brochure names 883 and 1200 versions and lists Low, SuperLow, Iron, Nightster, Custom and Forty-Eight as suitable base models; XR models were excluded from the conversion. The engine, year and equipment therefore remain those of the particular donor and conversion.

Buyers should assess a Boom Sportster as a combined, homologated vehicle: first identify the Harley donor, then the Boom conversion through chassis/type information and paperwork. This Boom record covers that trike application only; it does not alter or replace the standalone Harley-Davidson Sportster model family.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • Check that registration, VIN, type plate and homologation papers clearly document both the Harley Sportster donor and Boom conversion; XR donors do not match Boom's stated 2011 conversion scope.
  • Establish whether the donor is an 883 or 1200 and check Harley engine and transmission service history, oil level, belt drive and any intake, exhaust or wiring modifications.
  • Inspect the Boom rear axle, independent/rear suspension where fitted, bearings and rear tyres for play, leaks, misalignment and uneven wear.
  • Test front and rear brakes, parking brake and hydraulics on all three wheels, and inspect conversion mounts, frame and bodywork for cracks or repair evidence.
