S 1000 RR

The BMW S 1000 RR has been BMW's superbike flagship since 2009 and was the brand's first serious inline-four sportbike. Its 999 cc transverse four-cylinder produces 152 kW (207 hp) at 13,500 rpm in the current generation, paired with a six-speed gearbox and quickshifter. Developed for the 2009 Superbike World Championship, the RR introduced production-bike innovations like ABS Pro, dynamic traction control and ride-by-wire throttle. Later updates (2015, 2019, 2023) added ShiftCam variable valve timing, the M Package and aerodynamic winglets.

The RR is uncompromisingly sport-focused: stiff suspension, an aggressive riding position, minimal luggage capacity and a high steering head. It excels on track but the stretched tank-to-seat reach makes it tiring for long-distance or urban riding. Rivals include the Yamaha YZF-R1, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade and Aprilia RSV4. On the used market, track-only bikes with crash damage are cheap but risky; verify the registration status and service book.
