About the Bmw R Nine T
The BMW R nineT is a heritage roadster introduced by BMW in 2014 to mark the ninetieth anniversary of its motorcycle production. The air-cooled 1170 cc flat-twin produces 110 hp and has been kept deliberately close to its roots, the R nineT is built to be personalised. A classic steel tube frame and a removable subframe make it popular for custom and café racer builds. BMW extended the family with the Pure (scaled-down entry model), Scrambler, Urban G/S and Racer.
The R nineT targets riders who value both character and everyday usability. The upright riding position, shaft drive and solid torque delivery give a familiar BMW feel, while the retro design and wide customisation options set it apart from more utilitarian naked bikes. Rivals include the Ducati Scrambler, Triumph Thruxton and Moto Guzzi V7. The R nineT remains in production and evolves gradually.

What to check before buying
- Check the exhaust gaskets for leaks; the high-mounted boxer cylinders radiate heat directly toward the rider's leg; loosened gaskets are a recurring issue.
- Inspect the shaft drive for wear and play; the shaft housing can seep oil at higher mileage.
- Check the rear suspension (monoshock): the default setting is calibrated for average weight and can reach its limits quickly when loaded.
- Verify that the rear subframe is properly secured and has not been removed and refitted incorrectly.
- Older examples (pre-2017) can suffer a weak battery due to relatively high electrical draw during infrequent use.
