About this model

About the Bmw R 75/7

The BMW R 75/7 is an air-cooled 745 cc flat-twin produced by BMW from 1976 to 1980 as the successor to the /6 series. BMW refined the design with improved oil cooling, round instruments, and a new subframe layout. Retaining 50 hp, the R 75/7 offered the same power characteristics as its predecessor but with slightly improved handling through revised steering geometry.

The R 75/7 appeals to classic BMW enthusiasts and touring riders. Its relatively heavy weight and limited braking performance make it unsuitable for beginners. Ergonomics are comfortable on long rides, but the bike's character does not suit aggressive riding. Contemporary rivals include the Honda CB750 F and the Moto Guzzi V50.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • Check the Bing carburetors for aging diaphragms and float needles; genuine /7 parts are increasingly scarce.
  • Inspect the front disc brakes for rotor wear; braking power is modest by current standards.
  • Check the shaft drive for play at the universal joints; wear causes jerkiness under acceleration.
  • Look for oil seepage around the rocker covers; /7-generation gaskets harden over the years.
  • Inspect the battery holder and frame for corrosion, particularly on bikes stored in damp conditions.
