About the Bmw R 1300 GS
The BMW R 1300 GS replaced the R 1250 GS in 2023 as the latest in the world's best-selling adventure-touring lineage. The 1300 cc boxer is entirely new: lighter, more compact, and with the gearbox tucked beneath rather than behind the engine. It produces 145 hp and 149 Nm and pairs with a new pressed-steel main frame and aluminium rear subframe. Cornering ABS Pro, four ride modes, cruise control and a 6.5-inch TFT dash are standard; semi-active DSA suspension, Adaptive Vehicle Height Control and Option 719 finishes are popular factory choices.
The R 1300 GS targets riders who tour solo or two-up over long distances and occasionally venture onto gravel. At a kerb weight near 237 kg it is slightly lighter than the 1250, and seat height adjusts from 820 to 850 mm. Main competitors are the Ducati Multistrada V4, KTM 1290 Super Adventure S, Triumph Tiger 1200 GT and Honda Africa Twin. Used examples are still scarce given its age; verify the first dealer service and any software updates have been completed.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the 1,000 km and 10,000 km dealer services have been carried out and stamped in the service book.
- Ask about firmware updates and recall status; the bike received several software revisions during its first production year.
- Inspect threaded inserts in the crankcase, valve covers and exhaust flange for corrosion or damage - small but expensive to repair.
- Cycle through every electronic option (DSA, AVHC, ride modes, cruise control); faults usually surface as TFT warnings.
- Check the silencer and aluminium pannier or footpeg mounts for corrosion blooms, particularly on winter-ridden bikes.
