Features and handling differ by generation. Use this overview to find the right version.
Years
2008 - 2012
Despite the name, this generation uses the F 800 family's 798 cc parallel twin, detuned to 71 hp. Two exhaust headers, a 19-inch cast wheel and the broader twin layout distinguish it from the earlier single.
Years
2004 - 2007
The facelift retained the 652 cc single but gained two spark plugs, revised bodywork and refined engine mapping. The twin-spark designation and later front styling identify it.
Years
2000 - 2003
The first F 650 GS uses the liquid-cooled 652 cc Rotax single with one spark plug. Its under-seat fuel tank and conventional 19-inch front-wheel layout make it economical and accessible.
The BMW F 650 GS is an entry-level adventure motorcycle produced by BMW in two generations: the original single-cylinder (652 cc, 1999–2007) and the K72 generation with a transverse parallel-twin of 798 cc (2008–2012). Dutch registrations are dominated by the second generation with 71 hp and a kerb weight of 190 kg. A low seat height, upright riding position and forgiving chassis make the F 650 GS suitable for daily commuting as well as light off-road use.
The F 650 GS targets beginners and riders looking for a versatile everyday motorcycle. The suspension is more comfort-focused than its bigger sibling the F 800 GS, but less capable off-road. BMW also offered a Dakar variant with taller suspension and a larger fuel tank. Compared to the Honda CB500X and Kawasaki Versys 650, the F 650 GS is the most beginner-friendly choice of the three.
A used Bmw F 650 GS costs €3,950 on average. Most cost €2,219 to €5,150. This is based on 67 motorcycles for sale now.
