About the Benelli 900 Sei
The Benelli 900 Sei is an Italian inline six produced from 1978 to 1989 as the successor to the 750 Sei. The air-cooled 906 cc transverse six produces around 59 kW (80 hp) at 8,400 rpm and drives the rear wheel through a 5-speed gearbox and chain. It was a flagship project led by Alejandro de Tomaso, designed to position Benelli alongside the Honda CB750 and Kawasaki Z1. Visually it is unmistakable thanks to its six exhausts grouped into two banks of three and its very wide engine.
Today the 900 Sei is a cult-status collector's bike. At around 220 kg dry and with typical 1970s ergonomics it offers a more upright, comfortable seating position than many contemporaries. The riding experience is defined by the smooth, low-vibration six-cylinder note and the broad torque spread; top speed is no longer a selling point, character is. Parts demand specialist knowledge - only a few thousand bikes were built. Closest used-market rivals are other classic sixes such as the Honda CBX 1000 and Kawasaki Z1300.
