The Aprilia Tuono 1000 is a naked streetfighter built on the RSV1000 supersport platform, introduced in 2003 as one of the first true hyper-naked motorcycles in Europe. The 998 cc V-twin delivers its full output of approximately 133 hp in a light, tall, unfaired riding position. Aprilia offered the bike in a standard R variant and a factory-prepared Factory version with Öhlins suspension and Brembo monoblock brakes.
The Tuono 1000 targets experienced riders who want superbike performance in a more street-usable naked package. The upright seating position improves city manoeuvrability, but the bike is definitely not suitable for beginners, torque is explosive and demands respect. At motorway speeds there is no wind protection whatsoever. Contemporary direct competitors included the Ducati Monster S4R and the Triumph Speed Triple.
