About the Zundapp S 200
The Zündapp S 200 is an early German lightweight motorcycle with a 198cc two-stroke single from the beginning of the 1930s. With simple engineering, low output and pre-war construction, it is not a modern classic for daily traffic but a historic vehicle for collectors, museum rides and carefully restored oldtimer use.
On an S 200, authenticity and restoration quality are everything. Performance is secondary to correct numbers, suitable carburettor and ignition, and the condition of frame, tank and wheels. Have a specialist assess the motorcycle before purchase: reconstructions and non-original parts exist, and a poorly executed rebuild can greatly reduce value. Documentation, restoration photographs and a complete registration record are major advantages.

What to check before buying
- Check frame number, engine number and type plate against documents, and ask for the provenance of major parts.
- Inspect cylinder, crankshaft, piston and ignition for documented rebuild work and smooth mechanical running.
- Check tank, fuel tap, carburettor and lines for rust, leaks and safe fuel delivery.
- Inspect frame, fork, rims and wire wheels for corrosion, old cracks or incorrect restoration.
- Ask about braking performance, tyre age and wiring quality; original appearance must not exclude safe engineering.
