S-platform SR (2014–2021)

Generation

The original SR uses the compact S chassis and was sold with several Z-Force battery capacities and charging options over its lifetime. It is appreciably lighter than the later generation, so range must be tied to the model year and battery label.

About this model

About the Zero SR

The Zero SR is the higher-performance naked model in the Zero Motorcycles range and first appeared in 2014. Its air-cooled Z-Force electric motor delivers immediate torque through a low-maintenance belt, without a clutch or gearbox. Early SR versions used the compact S platform with progressively larger modular battery packs; from 2022 the SR moved to the larger SR/F architecture with a 14.4+ kWh battery, improved charging options and software-expandable functions. Output, real range and charging speed therefore vary substantially by model year and configuration.

It suits riders who value silent, immediate acceleration and limited routine maintenance. It is particularly easy in urban and regional use, while sustained motorway riding reduces practical range more quickly. Reliable home charging matters more than access to a fuel station, so buyers should identify the fitted charger and connector. The SR is faster and heavier than the Zero S but less touring-focused than the SR/S. Alternatives include used Energica models, the LiveWire One and newer electric nakeds. Licence eligibility follows the continuous homologated output on the registration document, not simply the advertised peak figure.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • Request a fully charged battery and compare displayed range and cell balance with diagnostic data; prolonged storage at a very low state of charge can permanently reduce capacity.
  • Test charging with the supplied cable and every installed charger, inspect connectors for heat discolouration and confirm the motorcycle wakes without charging or isolation faults.
  • Inspect the drive belt around its full circumference for embedded stones, fraying, cracks and correct tension; misalignment is often audible as a varying whine.
  • Check firmware level, dashboard warnings, app pairing and activated software options because some equipment on recent models is software-defined.
  • Examine brake discs and calipers for corrosion or binding, as extensive regenerative braking can leave the mechanical brakes underused.
