About the Yamaha YZF 1000
The Yamaha YZF1000R ThunderAce is a 1002cc inline-four sports bike that Yamaha introduced in 1996 as the fastest production motorcycle of its time, capable of over 270 km/h. Based on the fairing and chassis of the FZR1000, it received an entirely new 150 hp engine with five valves per cylinder, a technology Yamaha also used in its superbike racing program. Production continued until 2003 when the YZF-R1 fully took over.
The ThunderAce targets experienced sport riders who want strong performance combined with touring comfort. The riding position is sporty but less extreme than a pure track-focused bike, making it suited for longer rides. With broad power delivery across the rev range it rewards motorway cruising and mountain passes. It competed with the Honda CBR1000F and Kawasaki ZZ-R1100.
