About the Yamaha XVS 250
The Yamaha XVS250 DragStar 250 is a compact Japanese cruiser that debuted in spring 2000 and was produced through 2017. It uses its own air-cooled 248cc V-twin and five-speed gearbox; it is not an XVS650 with smaller cylinders. Its low seat and long wheelbase give it the classic DragStar look, but technology, parts and performance must be assessed by XVS250 generation. On an imported motorcycle, always verify frame code, registered output, exhaust and lighting. Later Japanese examples received a different type approval and lower stated output.

What to check before buying
- Verify the frame code and documents against XVS250; confusion with XV250/V Star 250 and larger DragStars is common.
- Inspect carburettor, fuel tap, tank and intake rubbers for ageing, leaks and a stable cold start.
- Check shaft oil and final drive for leaks, play and service history.
- Test clutch, five-speed gearbox, brakes and suspension; low cruisers often receive aftermarket exhausts or lowering kits.
- Check import lighting, exhaust and registered output for a legal and insurable configuration.
