About the Yamaha XVS 125
The Yamaha XVS 125 DragStar is a light cruiser from 2000–2004 with an air-cooled 124cc V-twin, five-speed gearbox and chain drive. Its low seat and classic proportions give it the appearance of a larger cruiser, but performance and maintenance remain those of a 125. It is not an XVS250: displacement, use and parts must be assessed separately.
When buying, check cold starting, carburettors, intake rubbers and the chain set. Inspect frame and exhaust for corrosion, and examine front brake, rear drum, fork and spoked wheels carefully. A complete DragStar with original intake and exhaust rides in a relaxed manner; a heavily customised bike can make tuning and parts sourcing unnecessarily difficult.

What to check before buying
- Check carburettors, intake rubbers and cold starting for contamination, leaks or uneven running.
- Inspect chain, sprockets and rear-wheel alignment for wear and deferred maintenance.
- Check frame, exhaust and spoked wheels for corrosion, especially on year-round bikes.
- Test front disc, rear drum, cables and fork seals for seizure or leaks.
- Check original intake and exhaust parts; incorrect components make a small V-twin difficult to tune.
