About the Yamaha Why 50
The Yamaha WHY 50 (YH50) is a compact 49cc city scooter from the late 1990s and early 2000s. It is its own model, not a Neo’s: verify model name and frame number before ordering parts. Its two-stroke engine and CVT are intended for short urban trips, not long high-speed journeys.
When buying, fresh fuel supply and smooth transmission matter more than shiny panels. Check carburettor, automatic choke, oil lines, belt and rollers, brakes and tyres. Also inspect panel mounts and electrical functions, as many 50cc scooters have lived outside. A complete WHY 50 is a straightforward classic for local use.

What to check before buying
- Check carburettor, automatic choke and tank for contamination or long storage.
- Inspect oil pump and lines for leaks or brittleness before sustained riding.
- Test CVT belt, rollers and clutch for slip, judder and uneven engagement.
- Check brakes, tyres, fork and wheel bearings for age and seizure.
- Test charging voltage, lights, starter and panel mounts for corrosion and damage.
