About this model

About the Yamaha TZ 350

The Yamaha TZ350 was a 350cc Grand Prix customer racer from 1973 through 1981. Yamaha released the TZ350 in 1973 as the successor to the air-cooled TR family. It is a water-cooled two-stroke inline twin with six speeds, built for competition rather than road use. Its development separates clearly into generations: the early TZ350/TZ350B with twin rear shocks and drum brakes, the TZ350C with disc brakes and a central rear shock, the D/E and the late F–H. This page keeps the TZ350 separate from the TZ250, TZ500 and TZ750; always check model letter, frame, cylinders and cycle parts before assigning parts or a model year.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • Treat every TZ350 as a pure race bike: request a documented rebuild history for crankshaft, cylinders, pistons, ignition and gearbox.
  • Verify model letter and year from frame, engine and components; A/B, C, D/E and F–H have materially different cycle parts and brakes.
  • Inspect radiator, hoses, water pump, expansion chambers and carburettors for leaks, corrosion and incompatible race parts.
  • Inspect frame, swingarm, welds, steering stops, wheels and brakes closely for circuit or sidecar stress and old repairs.
  • Do not confuse a TZ350 with a TZ250, TZ500, TZ750 or a YZR factory machine; engines, chassis and provenance are not automatically interchangeable.
