The Yamaha TMAX 500 (XP500) is a maxi-scooter powered by a liquid-cooled parallel-twin four-stroke 499 cc engine, produced from 2001 to 2011. At its launch the TMAX established a new segment: a motor-scooter combining motorcycle-style dynamics with the convenience of a scooter's automatic transmission. A forged steel double-wishbone swingarm chassis, hydraulic disc brakes and low centre of gravity set a new class benchmark.
The TMAX 500 attracts daily commuters who do not want to compromise on riding enjoyment. Its power output is sufficient for motorway use and the handling is considerably sharper than most maxi-scooters. The low seat and automatic gearbox also make it accessible for riders without prior motorcycle experience. It competed with the Suzuki Burgman 400/650, Honda Silver Wing and BMW C650 Sport.
