GenerationLong power cruiser with a 1,854cc V-twin, belt drive and very low seat. A choice for riders wanting torque and custom presence, with attention to tyres, belt and low-speed handling.
About the Yamaha Raider
The Yamaha Raider is a long, low power cruiser from Yamaha's Star line, using a 1,854cc air-cooled V-twin and belt drive. It is built around presence and torque: a long wheelbase, low seat and large rear tyre create a pronounced chopper-like stance while the engine remains usable for relaxed touring.
The Raider suits an experienced rider wanting a large custom without taking on a build project. Its mass, long wheelbase and enormous torque demand respect at low speed. On a used example, belt, rear tyre, brakes and chrome/paint condition matter. Inspect aftermarket exhausts and tuning carefully too; a well-documented, tidy configuration is worth more than a loud but poorly set-up bike.

What to check before buying
- Check belt, pulleys and rear-wheel alignment for wear, stone damage and correct tension.
- Inspect rear tyre, brake disc and pads; wide rubber and high torque make replacements relatively expensive.
- Inspect chrome, paint, tank seams and exhaust for corrosion or cosmetic damage.
- Test cold start, idle and throttle response; confirm any aftermarket exhaust or mapping is correctly set up.
- Check steering-head bearings, fork and steering stops for play or damage from manoeuvring a heavy cruiser.
