The Maxim 750 uses Yamaha's 749cc shaft-drive four-cylinder in a low cruiser layout. Carburettor, shaft-drive and charging-system maintenance determines usability.
The Yamaha Maxim 750 is the cruiser version of the early-1980s XJ750 four-cylinder. Its air-cooled shaft-drive engine gives smooth performance and the low seat suits relaxed riding. It is a classic Japanese cruiser rather than a modern tourer: brakes, suspension and chassis need realistic expectations and good care.
When buying, inspect carburettors, shaft oil, swingarm play and charging voltage. Corrosion on frame, exhaust and chrome is common after outdoor storage. Test the brakes and ensure it starts cleanly from cold with all four cylinders running evenly. A maintained Maxim 750 is a calm, dependable classic; one with poor carburettors or electrical issues can need substantial work.
