2013–2016 update

GenerationThe first FZ8 Fazer combines the 779cc inline-four with a fixed half fairing for noticeably better wind protection than the naked FZ8. Early examples warrant particular attention to smooth throttle response and undamaged fairing mounts.
About the Yamaha FZ 8 Fazer
The Yamaha FZ8 and FZ8 Fazer are mid-range naked and half-faired motorcycles powered by a liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder 779 cc engine. Introduced in 2010, Yamaha positioned the FZ8 as a more accessible alternative to the FZ1, with a detuned engine producing 106 hp and a lower seat height. The FZ8 Fazer adds a half fairing for motorway wind protection. Both models shared a modified version of the R6 chassis.
The FZ8 suits experienced riders looking for an everyday machine with sporty performance. The power is manageable for a wide range of riders and the chassis is precise and responsive. The Fazer variant is more comfortable for longer rides thanks to the wind protection. It competed with the Honda CB600F Hornet, Suzuki GSR750 and Kawasaki Z750R. Production ended in 2016.

What to check before buying
- Check the throttle for smooth operation; early FZ8 models had an abrupt throttle response that can be challenging at low rpm.
- Inspect the clutch for wear; the inline-four requires regular checks for riders who frequently commute in traffic.
- Check the exhaust silencer (original Yamaha unit) for corrosion and gasket wear.
- Examine the Fazer fairing for cracks and damaged mounts; fairing repairs are expensive and a low-speed drop typically damages footpegs and brackets.
- Check the steering head bearings for play at higher mileages, a frequently reported issue on the FZ series.
