Speed Triple 1200 RR (2021–heden)

Edition

The 1200 RR shares the 180 hp engine with the RS but adds a half fairing, clip-ons and electronic Öhlins Smart EC suspension. It is the correct edition when RR is explicit.

Speed Triple 955i (1999–2004)

Generation

With 955cc the Speed Triple gained stronger mid-range and output, plus the single-sided swingarm of this period. Do not confuse this generation with the later 1050.

Speed Triple T509 885 (1997–1998)

Generation

The T509 brought fuel injection, an aluminium perimeter frame and the signature twin headlights. It is clearly more modern than the T300 while retaining the 885cc base.

Years

1994 - 1996

Speed Triple T300 885 (1994–1996)

Generation

The first Speed Triple uses the 885cc carburetted triple and modular T300 frame. It is rawer and heavier than every later generation, suiting a buyer specifically seeking an early Hinckley Triumph.

About this model

About the Triumph Speed Triple

The Triumph Speed Triple is the hard-edged inline-triple naked that has defined the sporting side of the brand since 1994. One name covers very different motorcycles: the early 885cc T300, fuel-injected T509 and 955i models, several 1050 generations and, from 2021, the radical 1160cc Speed Triple 1200. Year and trim therefore matter more than the name alone when comparing output, weight and electronics.

A well-kept Speed Triple combines strong mid-range pull with a distinctive sound and a usable riding position for a sporty naked. Older examples are mechanically simpler but deserve close attention to service history, charging health and chassis bearings. Later 1050 S and RS versions differ in output and hardware, while the 1200 RS and RR are an entirely new, much lighter generation. Always confirm whether RS, RR, 955i or 1050 is explicit in an advert before deriving the specification.

Before you buy

What to check before buying

  • On older examples, check charging voltage, battery connections and regulator/stator condition; starting trouble or a weak battery needs investigation.
  • Inspect fork seals, head bearings and rear-suspension linkage for leaks, corrosion and play.
  • Test clutch and gearbox both cold and warm; a slipping clutch or difficult second gear is not a minor issue on a sporty used naked.
  • Check brake discs, callipers and ABS warnings, particularly on bikes that have stood unused or been modified with accessories.
  • Match frame/VIN, year and trim to the advert. A 1050 S, 1050 RS, 1200 RS and 1200 RR do not share interchangeable specifications.
