Speed Triple S
GenerationThe 2016–2018 Speed Triple S is the standard 1,050 cc naked of the last 1050 generation, with ride-by-wire and modern riding modes but simpler equipment than R or RS. Check software, any fitted quickshifter, chain set, brakes and ABS/traction-control operation; confirm S trim from original components.
About the Triumph Speed Triple S
The Triumph Speed Triple S is the entry-level variant of the iconic Speed Triple line, powered by a liquid-cooled three-cylinder 1050 cc engine producing 140 hp. Introduced in 2016 as a more accessible counterpart to the Speed Triple R, the S version delivers the same proven engine and distinctive aggressive naked styling, but with standard Showa suspension rather than the R's fully adjustable Öhlins components. The twin circular headlights are the Speed Triple's signature design feature.
The Speed Triple S targets experienced riders who want a powerful, charismatic naked bike without the premium price of the R. The three-cylinder engine delivers a broad powerband paired with a unique sound and feel. The riding position is sporty but not extreme. It competes with the BMW S 1000 R, Ducati Monster 1200 and Aprilia Tuono 1100.

What to check before buying
- Check the clutch for slip under hard acceleration; the triple delivers power explosively, placing heavy demands on the clutch.
- Inspect the Showa forks for leaking seals; the standard suspension is less robust than the R's Öhlins spec.
- Check the underseat exhaust system for corrosion and damage from low-speed scraping.
- Check the electronic rider aids (riding modes, traction control) for faults and verify the software is current.
- Inspect tyre condition; the high torque output wears rear tyres rapidly during spirited riding.
