About the Triumph Scrambler 900
The Triumph Scrambler 900 is a retro scrambler built on the air-cooled 865 cc parallel-twin platform shared with the Bonneville family. It produces 55 kW (74 hp) and features the signature high-mounted exhaust pipes on the right side that define the scrambler aesthetic. The styling draws directly from 1960s off-road competition machines while remaining practical for daily street use.
The Scrambler 900 targets riders who prioritise character and looks over outright performance. The upright riding position is comfortable on tarmac, but the weight and road-biased tyres limit genuine off-road ability. It competes with the Ducati Scrambler 800 and BMW R nineT Scrambler. A restricted 48 kW version was available for A2 licence holders, broadening its appeal to newer riders.

What to check before buying
- Check the high-level exhaust pipes for heat cracks and weld corrosion; repeated heat cycling degrades the finish.
- Inspect the fuel injectors (2008+ models) for rough idle; injectors can gum up on bikes left standing for extended periods.
- The single front disc is adequate but requires more lever effort than modern sport setups; verify brake pad and disc wear.
- Check chain tension and sprocket wear carefully; the chain drive on the Scrambler wears faster than on shaft-drive siblings.
- On older examples, inspect the battery tray and electrical connectors for rust and corrosion; the open frame allows moisture ingress.
