V-Strom 250SX (2023-heden)
GenerationThe V-Strom 250SX is the newer, lighter version with a 249 cc single, 19-inch front wheel and more gravel-oriented appearance. It differs clearly from the earlier DL250 twin: look for ‘SX’ in the advert and note the lower kerb weight.
Years
2017 - 2020
V-Strom 250 / DL250 (2017-2020)
GenerationThe first V-Strom 250, also called the DL250, uses a 248 cc parallel twin and is a light travel-oriented adventure bike with a notably large 17-litre tank. It is best for commuting and calm touring roads, not serious off-road use on its road-biased wheels.
About the Suzuki V-Strom 250
The Suzuki V-Strom 250 (DL250) is a compact adventure-tourer powered by a liquid-cooled 248 cc parallel-twin producing around 26 hp. Suzuki launched the DL250 in 2017 as the smaller sibling of the V-Strom 650 and 1000, sharing the same distinctive beak design and adventurous character. The engine delivers enough power for motorway riding, while its light weight of around 187 kg and accessible seat height make it ideal for less experienced riders. A revised version appeared in 2023.
The V-Strom 250 targets A2-licence holders and commuters who want to take occasional weekend trips. The upright riding position is comfortable for longer distances and fuel consumption is frugal. It competes with the Kawasaki Versys 300 and Honda CB500X. An excellent first motorcycle for riders who want touring capability.

What to check before buying
- Check chain tension and sprocket wear – the small twin is often ridden by less experienced owners who skip chain maintenance.
- Inspect front and rear brake pads for remaining thickness; braking power is modest and worn pads are quickly felt.
- Check the windscreen mounting points for hairline cracks in the plastic on high-mileage examples.
- Look over the electrical connectors for corrosion on bikes stored outdoors.
